The Global Issues Study Group Research of the International Relations Study Program, FISIP UNS, in partnership with the Sukoharjo Student Association UNS (Kemas UNS) held am activities for the people and children of Sukoharjo related to inclusiveness and caring for the environment on 11 August 2024 in Polokarto. This activity is a series of agendas designed for community service as well as welcoming Indonesia’s 79th independence on August 17 2024. The activity began with remarks from the Chair of the Committee, Chair of Kemas UNS, and Chair of the Research Group for the Global Issues Study of the UNS International Relations Study Program, Drs. Ign. Agung Satyawan, S.E., S.Ikom, M.Sc., Ph.D, and also had the opportunity to provide material about climate change.

He said that currently countries in the world are focusing on achieving sustainable development, but they have quite serious challenges, called climate change. One of the most frequently encountered causes of climate change is waste. Waste has bad impacts such as environmental pollution, floods and dengue fever. Furthermore, it is also explained how to manage waste which consists of 4R, namely reduce, reuse, recycle, and replace.

To parents, Mr. Agung Satyawan, said that educating children to love the environment is very important. Children need to be responsible for their own waste, including children with disabilities. Children with disabilities also have the same rights and access to care about the environment. It further mentions several environmental education activities that can be implemented by parents, such as gardening, managing waste, and discussing climate change with the family members.

At the end of the session, Mr. Agung invited all children and parents to participate in answering several questions related to the material that had been provided. All participants looked enthusiastic and eager to answer various questions. It is hoped that this activity can foster people’s love and care for the environment, as well as involve disabled children being active in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
