The Global Issues Study Group Research of the International Relations Study Program, FISIP UNS, in partnership with the Sukoharjo Student Association UNS (Kemas UNS) held am activities for the people and children of Sukoharjo related to inclusiveness and caring for the environment on 11 August 2024 in Polokarto. This activity is a series of agendas designed for community service as well as welcoming Indonesia’s 79th independence on August 17 2024. The activity began with remarks from the Chair of the Committee, Chair of Kemas UNS, and Chair of the Research Group for the Global Issues Study of the UNS International Relations Study Program, Drs. Ign. Agung Satyawan, S.E., S.Ikom, M.Sc., Ph.D, and also had the opportunity to provide material about climate change. He said that currently countries in the world are focusing on achieving sustainable development, but they have quite serious challenges, called climate change. One of the most frequently encountered causes of climate change is waste. Waste has bad impacts such as environmental pollution, floods and dengue fever. Furthermore, it is also explained how to manage waste which consists of 4R, namely reduce, reuse, recycle, and replace. To parents, Mr. Agung Satyawan, said that educating children to love the environment is very important. Children need to be responsible for their own waste, including children with disabilities. The ASEAN Study Center (PSA) LPPM UNS collaborated with HI FISIP UNS to hold a working visit to BRIDA Solo and Bapperida Sukoharjo on 10 September. During the visit, Mr. Agung Satyawan as Head of PSA gave a speech and presentation regarding PSA. PSA exists to voice regional interests to ASEAN, as well as being an accomplice of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be able to research regional potentials. Secretary of BRIDA Solo, Mrs. Galuh Murya said that the invitation for cooperation from PSA was very interesting and beneficial for BRIDA. Currently, BRIDA already has a journal platform, called “Jurnal Bengawan Solo”, which has been published since 2022. Mr. Agung admitted that he was interested in the “Jurnal Bengawan Solo”, so it is very possible for joint research between PSA and BRIDA Solo. The hope is that in the future there will be cooperation in the field of humanities, as is currently the focus of ASEAN, such as migration, development, gender and others. BRIDA Solo also expressed its desire to promote village identities according to their respective uniqueness, such as KB Village, Child Friendly, and Batik. On 10 July 2024, ASEAN Studies Center (PSA) LPPM UNS in collaboration with International Relation (IR) Study Program FISIP UNS conducted a working visit to Badan Perencanaan Pembangunan, Riset dan Inovasi Daerah (Bapperida) Sragen and Badan Perencanaan, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan (Baperlitbang) Karanganyar. This visit is in the context of research called Penelitian Penguatan Institusi (PPI) 2024, that aims to explore for potential issues, studies, and collaborations. Located in Bapperida Sragen, Septyanto Galan Prakoso, S.IP., M.Sc, as an event coordinator, states three main objectives: explore the regional potential, strength interconnectivity through coordinated research, and build a good relations between PSA, IR, and the institutions. Head of Bapperida Sragen, Aris Tri Hartanto, S.STP and team warmly welcomed the visit and invitation for cooperations from PSA and IR. Aris mentions that regional issues and potential that could be used as study material is the agriculture sector, poverty, drought disaster, Batik Goyor, and Kemukus Mountain. Currently, Sragen is one of the national rice barn areas in Indonesia, however the poverty level is still relatively high, even the highest in Karesidenan Surakarta. The poverty spreads to other problem such as dropped-out childern (Anak Tidak Sekolah/ATS) and stunting. However, Sragen received the highest appreciation for its efforts to handle stunting. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN, Ambassador Rahmat Pramono together with The Philippines Permanent Representative to ASEAN, Ambassador Elizabeth P. Buensuceso paid a visit to Universitas Sebelas Maret on Wednesday (22/3/2017). The visitation was in order to maximize the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee meeting held in Solo on March, 21-22, 2017 as well as to know and comprehend the aspirations of campus community. In addition, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia for the ASEAN cooperated with ASEAN Studies Center UNS held public lectures for socialization of the development of ASEAN towards the celebration of 50 years. The lecture was delivered by the Ambassador of the Philippines for ASEAN, subsequent to the leadership of ASEAN is fell at the turn of Philippines. The theme discussed on the seminar is “The ASEAN and the Philippines ASEAN Chairmanship”. ASEAN Studies Center held a workshop intended to provide more insight about the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to the Surakarta Administrative and Governance Apparatus on Wednesday (26/10/2016). ASEAN Studies Center also invited Berlianto Situngkir, the Head of Sub-Directorate ASEAN Economic Cooperation, as the main speaker along with Drs. Ign. Agung Satyawan, S.E., S.Ikom., M.Si., Ph.D. Berlianto Situngkir asserted as follow, “We need to take the opportunities in the MEA in order for Indonesia to be competitive towards other ASEAN member states.” Lukman Fahmi, the moderator of the workshop as well as the lecturer of International Relations Major in Faculty of Social and Political Science UNS, added that, “Indonesian community has many advantage which enable them to compete in MEA, for instance is the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME). This potential needs to be continually encouraged in order for SME in Indonesia could play and compete at the ASEAN level.” MEA is started in the end of 2015 and it is not oriented on free trade of goods, but also the education and health sector. Thus, Agung Satyawan addressed that there is a need for Indonesia to improve the capacity of the human resources and the infrastructure. To conclude the workshop, Agung also added that as Indonesia ready itself to enter the era of the MEA, current position and the role of government agencies such as Camat and Lurah are very strategic as a spearhead in the optimization of resources. ASEAN Studies Center on Friday (23/9/2016) held a seminar which consisted of book review titled “Kedah Dua Milenia” by Dr. Haji Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani, Director of Institut Pemikiran Dr. Tun Mahathir Mohammad Universiti Utara Malaysia, and public lecture infront of students of International Relations Major FISIP, UNS. Speakers at this activity were the author of the book, namely Dr. Haji Ahmad Zaharuddin Sani along with a historian from Faculty of Cultural Studies, Dr. A. Susanto and guided by the head of ASEAN Center Studies, Drs. Ign Agung Satyawan, SE, S.Ikom, MSi, PhD. Through this seminar, the output expected was the establishment of a deeper mutual understanding between the two neighboring countries, namely Indonesia and Malaysia, who have a long history of relation which proved with the affiliation of the Sultanate of Kedah with kingdoms in Nusantara.
